Life Student Chastises Dr. Cima for Increasing Patient Visit Average with Rehab
April 1 2000

Dear TAG: I am a chiropractic student at LIFE University, and I have to say that I become very disappointed and ashamed of our profession when I read articles such as Dr. James Cima's. First, let me state that I am an avid supporter of the need for rehabilitation in any chiro office. As he stated, "If you are going to create proper spinal balance while correcting spinal subluxations, the muscles/tendons and ligaments need to be strengthened to support your correction." The fact that chiropractic adjustments will hold for longer periods of time following active patient rehab is a positive attribute to any chiro care program. However, Dr. Cima ADVERTISED "increases in Patient Visit Average (how many times you see a patient)" as a BENEFIT to rehabilitation. This is distasteful at best. My goal as an aspiring chiropractor is to DECREASE the number of times I need to see my patient. My goal is to get them well, and instill in them the ability to STAY WELL, WITHOUT constant visits to my office. Dr. Cima, I agree that bringing in $4800-9600 a month extra FROM YOUR PATIENTS isn't "too shabby." But I sincerely hope that your quest for the almighty dollar isn't overriding your quest for your patient's health and well-being. Anonymous
