Dear TAC Please allow me to add another perspective to the chiropractic growing pains and explain why I support the WCA and CBS. I applaud the WCA's efforts to stand up for all chiropractors and, most of all, for the patients' right to choose with adequate informed consent, which should be provided by all health care providers, as well as the media. Yes. all chiropractors are correcting subluxations and looking for outcomes that reflect subluxation correction. There are differences, however, because each chiropractor focuses on a certain aspect of health, whether it is pain relief from an occupational outlook, improved function for sports performance, recovery from spinal trauma (e.g.. whiplash), or a broader subluxation perspective that concerns itself with neurological homeostasis, and longevity, at the cellular level. These are all specialties. Chiropractors are at their best when practicing their favorite specialty. II you decide to limit your practice, that is fine. Please do not expect everyone else to conform to your cho sen limitations. The WCA defends this right and does not want the profes sion to settle for less. Once a freedom is given up, it cannot be won back. We must be cautious how we negoti ate. CBS malpractice insurance recognizes the differences in practice approaches. Coverage is based on how one wishes to diagnose and cor- rect subluxations. It is very simple and business-wise. During chiropractic college, I was inundated with so much information, it was overwhelming. The CCP guidelines helped me focus on the type of practice I wanted. The Chiropractic Journal kept me enthused during arduous semesters. On Purpose audio tapes showed me that it is my duty to educate the public. Every human body is unique: so unique that the healing response from person to person is extraordinary. Under chiropractic care, the body is even more extraordinary. My hope is that we always convey the utmost respect for the wisdom of the body and the unlimited benefits of chiropractic. Lisa Ann Homic. M.Ed. D.C. Auburn, NY O
