The Michigan Chiropractic Association (MCA) has a twenty-year history of combining chiropractic with sports. Through the organization's Chiropractic Information Bureau (CIB) doctors have volunteered their time to provide chiropractic care for athletes at hundreds of sporting events statewide. The latest example of MCA members successfully bringing chiropractic to professional sports is Dr. Sol Cogan of Farmington, who is now the official chiropractor of the Detroit Lions. Dr. Cogan is the Founder and President of HealthQuest Chiropractic and has been a member of the MCA since he graduated from the National College of Chiropractic in 1992. He opened his first practice in July of 1992. Since then, Dr. Cogan has opened additional HealthQuest offices throughout Michigan. There are currently 11 locations, making it the largest group of chiropractic offices in the state. Earlier this year, Dr. Cogan met with the members of the Lions staff, including the Senior Vice President, who were impressed with his vision and goals for HealthQuest. The Lions were looking for an organization with a strong reputation and background, and HealthQuest was the clear choice. HealthQuest's size and large number of locations are definite advantages for the Lions. Team members can visit any of the HealthQuest offices located throughout the state. Most of the players on the team receive regular chiropractic care from Dr. Cogan, who attends all home and away games and is available at the Lion's training facility three days a week. Dr. Cogan spends one to two hours adjusting players before each game, and provides care for players during games as well. "Most of the players aren't just getting treatment for specific symptoms," said Dr. Cogan. "The players innately recognize that chiropractic adjustments greatly increase their performance."
