■ Dr. Clive Bridgham, a chiropractic physician from Barrington, RI, was recently invited by the Federation Internationale De Chiropratique Du Sport to work with a team of his peers, to be available to treat more than 5000 athletes from 105 countries, who competed for medals in the 8th World Games. The World Games, which were first held in 1981 in California, are part of the International Olympic movement and are able to use the five Olympic rings. Competitions include familiar sports such as archery, billiards, gymnastics, karate, sumo and rugby. Other sports include korfball, wushu, fin swimming and dragon boat racing. In all, there were 35 categories of sports that were in the 2009 World Games which were held for two weeks in mid July. According to Dr. Bridgham, "Many of the injuries we were seeing are com- parable to injuries many athletes suffer from, such as back injuries, neck injuries, knee injuries and shoulder injuries. These types of injuries can be helped by chiropractic adjustment and, because chiropractic is non-invasive, many athletes opt for chiropractic care as a first step in the course of treating a sports related injury." Dr. Bridgham is the Communications Director and member of the Board of Directors for the Chiropractic Society of Rhode Island. He has been a chiropractor in Rhode Island for the past 22 years and is board certified by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians in sports injury treatments.
