There's No "I" in "TEAM"... But there is one in "ATTITUDE"

When it comes to performing well within your company, many believe that skills and experience are the most important things. Truthfully, we stopped asking potential employees about their abilities and experience years ago.
Today, we focus on their attitudes and character. Not only is a positive attitude better for workplace satisfaction, but it also helps provide the best possible experience for the people we serve—doctors, staff, and patients.
An employee with a positive attitude will cope better in stressful situations. If we are being honest, most employees in a chiropractic office are juggling multiple tasks—helping patients, helping doctors, and helping each other. That's a virtual minefield of potentially stressful situations. When employees have negative attitudes, their actions may drive behaviors that help them achieve success, but often it's at the expense of the practice.
When it comes to selecting a candidate to work with us, we tend to look for the following personality attributes.
Respect
It is not enough for a potential candidate to treat me or our executive team with respect. After all, in the interview process, we expect you to be on your best behavior. Through carefully selected questions and scenarios, we can determine how respectful you will be to your coworkers and the doctors. How do you handle situations when you disagree with others? We are always looking for the best and brightest, and to do that, we need people who can confidently disagree and offer alternatives while remaining respectful to the rest of the team.
Passion and Enthusiasm
It's not just something we lookfor; it is something that we live by. The first of our company's core values states, "Face each day with passion and enthusiasm." Positive attitudes, passion, and enthusiasm are contagious and go a long way toward creating a healthy workplace. When we face each day, each new problem, and each situation with a "glass half full" attitude, challenges turn into opportunities and opportunities lead to success.
First Responder
We love to see candidates who go out of their way in their personal lives to help others. Studies show that people who help others are personally more fulfilled and have developed better social connections. They are also more resilient in stressful situations and tend to be happier at work. It is also the secret to living a meaningful life. By reviewing the writings of numerous philosophers throughout history, psychologist Carol Ryff found that helping others is "a central feature of a positive, well-lived life."
You can find many quotes about attitude. Some are funny. Some are cynical and sarcastic. The ones that speak to you are a great indicator of where your attitude registers on the scale of positive and negative. We all have moments when our attitudes ebb and flow, but the key is to remain positive even in adverse situations. Despite what some might say or think, your attitude is 100% dependent on you and not those around you. When we choose to have a positive attitude, we make the most significant differences in our own lives and the lives of others.
