He writes.... The Life University Saga Continues The biggest story inside our profession continues to be the ongoing saga of Life University. Of course there continues to be a host of rumors that have been circulating around this issue. I recently received several emails congratulating me on my being appointed as the interim president of Life. Hmmm, news to me! To help set the record straight let me present these snippets on the issue. • Life University was denied reaffirmation of accreditation by CCE. • The CCE accreditation remains in place during the CCE allotted time for appeal which should last until early November. • Dr. Sid Williams and his family have negotiated a retirement with the Life Uni^ersity-BQardjaf-JrusteesJhaLis now in effect. • The Williams family no longer has any control of the day to day operations of the University. • The Board of Trustees was conducting a search for an interim and long term president. • On the urging of several supporters I did submit my name to the Board of Trustees for consideration. Dozens of supporters also submitted letters of support on my behalf. 1 have not received any official notice from the Board if I was being considered. More information is available on this at www.braile.net. • LifeJ3oardifTrustees appoints Dr Michael Schmidt as interim president of Life. • Life University is pursuing the appeal process but is making contingency plans for a teach-out if necessary. As fluid as this situation is, rumors and misinformation make it even more confusing, especially for the students. Living here in the Atlanta area, not a day goes by when Life is not in the media. To help keep_the_prDJfissiDJLiip_i£Ldale_Qn what is happening we have created a news source for all media and releases related to this story. We have archived every article that we have come across on our student resource site, www.dc2be.com. July 2002, Now You Know E-mail Newsletter, The Information Age, www.nowyouknnw.com. N.J. The West Burnside Chiropractic Clinic provides chiropractic care at no cost to the indigent, underserved and under-insured population in downtown Portland and is supported by Western States Chiropractic College, a non-profit 501 ©(3) higher education institution. Approximately 50% of WBCC patients are unemployed, 25% are homeless, and the balance—although em- I ployed—live in or near the poverty level. , Many drug- and alcohol-abusing patients state at presentation to the WBCC that their pain exacerbates their substance abuse. The correlation between chronic pain and substance abuse is well documented in the scientific literature. Through eliminating and/or significantly lessening their pain, chiropractic care may help patients decrease their level of abuse and realize greater compliance with their rehabilitation program.
