A re you ready for this issue of TAC? Jumping in head first, you MUST READ the "Hot Topic" feature story on "Chiropractic Best Practices' Chain Reaction" starting on page 50. Whether you're aware of it or not. the profession is facing a real crossroads at this time. We finally have a "Best Practices" document in the making by the Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters (CCGPP)—an organization created under the guidance of the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA). This is, for chiropractic, a monumental opportunity to finally achieve equality, respect and a "legitimate" place in the health care profession. No longer will chiropractic be considered some mysterious treatment, which varies considerably from one practice to the next. Now, chiropractors, patients, doctors and health insurance companies can look to this one document to see the "Best Practice" procedures for optimal patient care. For once, everyone will be able to see what it is that chiropractors do and can do...right? Right?? Not so fast. Now that the CCGPP has finally posted it's first chapter (on low back care), the "facts" in this "Best Practice" document are being questioned. What was once heralded by all of the major chiropractic associations as being a great project (the Best Practice document), now (at the time of this writing), seems to have about twenty-six state associations vehemently opposing it. Why all the fuss? Find out for yourself by reading Wisconsin Chiropractic Association Executive Director Russ Leonard's critique as well as CCGPP's Dr's Wayne Whalen and Eugene Lewis' rebuttal, beginning on page 51. This is one of those few opportunities in chiropractic when you still have time to "speak now or forevermore hold your peace". Now, moving on to "Sports, Exercise, & Rehab," our issue focus, we bring you our cover story feature of Dr. George Le Beau, a former Olympic team doctor as well as a prolific extremity adjuster and instructor. We had the privilege of having Dr. Le Beau as a speaker at TAC's Chiropractic '06 symposium this past February, and the attendee response to his extremity technique adjusting was amazing! All of the doctors were getting out of their seats to get a closer look at how to implement the techniques for themselves! Needless to say, Dr. Le Beau will be back as a speaker at our Chiropractic '07 symposium in Panama, February 22-24th, 2007, so find out more about him and his techniques in our feature story on pg. 28. And, for more information on our seminar, you'll find a detailed pull-out brochure in between pages 24 and 25 of this issue. There's so much more to say and not enough space to tell you, so I'll be quick! The annual Florida Chiropractic Association's National convention is coming up this August 25 to the 27th, in Kissimmee, FL, so be sure to look up our advertisers (and us!) if you're going to be there! You'll find their booth numbers on many of their advertisements in this issue. You'll find us at our humble table top location of T-45. Be sure to stop by and say hello! Until then, keep up the great work! For chiropractic, Jaclyn Busch Touzard [email protected]
