Chiropractors across the world mourn the passing of Dr. Leander Eckard. Although Dr. Eckard was best known for the invention of the first motorized flexion distraction table, he helped thousands of chiropractors with the use of the "Leander Technique." Born and raised in Washington. Leander grew up an asthmatic. He took his first unencumbered breath after receiving his first chiropractic adjustment. Thus began his destiny as a chiropractor. He began Chiropractic College at Palmer College of Chiropractic and completed his chiropractic degree at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. MO, in 1964. Dr. Eckard practiced in several locations in Washington State for over thirty years. In an effort to provide better care to his patients and to case his growing problems with carpel tunnel pain, he developed the first motorized flexion distraction table. He then presented the table to chiropractors across the country. Dr. Eckard became a sought after speaker and taught the Leander Technique to doctors across the United States and several other countries. He served on the board of directors for Parker College of Chiropractic for sixteen years. In 1990, he retired from private practice to reside in Idaho, continuing his speaking career. Colleagues had this to say about Dr. Eckard: "He was a mountain of a man with a heart of equal size. His unparalled love for people and chiropractic is legendary, but I will always remember him standing over a Leander table with sweat pouring from his brow because he had been adjusting over 300 people. A Hall of Fame Chiropractor who will be missed by an entire profession," said Dr. Larry Markson. "His encouragement, his tables and adjustments...kept me working__he was THE doe for me...I will miss him, but will keep his spirit and techniques alive and thriving!" said Dr. Deanna Weeks. Dr. Eckard is survived by his wife, Diane, four children, two step children, fifteen grandchildren and one brother. His latest project was helping to build a new building for his church. In his honor, donations can be made to the building fund of Fern wood Community Bible Church, Post Office Box 279. Fernwood, ID 83830.
