It has been said that children, with a developing nervous system, and bones which are being modeled into their hardened state, are a demographic that a chiropractor has the potential to have the greatest amount of influence. Some chiropractors do focus on this specific niche, and enjoy booming practices as a result of their commitment to the children and families they serve, as well as their commitment to consistently educating themselves on the latest literature and techniques. That being said, chiropractic. and other alternative forms of treatment for children have been steadily gaining acceptance. Additionally, statistics have demonstrated a consistent upward trend in the diagnosis of autism and auto-immune diseases, which appear to have skyrocketed over the last 20 years. There are plenty of theories around as to what the exact cause of this explosion is, all of which are probably contributing factors. This February 2014 issue of The American Chiropractor is intended to keep the topic of treating children with chiropractic adjustments, and through non-pharmacological means for enhanced health, immunity, and longevity, in the conversation of health optimization techniques for aging well. As always, we cover the entire spectrum in this issue, so be sure to read this one, cover to cover! Until March! Joseph Busch.D.C.
