The Seven Motivators for Peak Performance
Eric Kaplan
There are seven motivators you must implement if you want to achieve all that is possible for you in life and practice. You can learn these disciplines through practice and repetition until they become automatic. Malcolm Gladwell discusses this in his book, Outliers: The Story of Success, and he says you must put in 10,000 hours to succeed. To become a doctor, you paid the price to be a doctor, so now continue to pay the price to be a great doctor. To accomplish this task, like any great task, discipline is germane. Did you thinkthe work ended with graduation? The work begins now. Success is not a chance destiny; it is a choice. Choose to be the best—choose to be successful.
1. Goal Setting
"Goal setting" is the first step toward "goal getting." Every morning, take five minutes to write out your top goals in the present tense. Get a spiral notebook for this purpose. By writing out your ten goals at the beginning of each day, you will program them deep into your subconscious mind.
At the end of the day, review your sheet and carry over the goals you did not accomplish to the next day. Let's do tomorrow what we didn't do today.
Daily goal writing will activate your mental powers. It will stimulate your mind and make you more alert. Throughout the day, you will see opportunities and possibilities to move more rapidly toward your goals. For more information, visit www.5 mi nute motivator, com.
2. Planning and Organizing
Take five minutes to plan every activity of the coming day, and preferably do so every night to plan for the following day. Always work from a list and keep this list with you. The secret is to learn to think on paper. This is one of the most powerful and important systems for high performance. You must run your life with the same organization that you use to run your practice. My office is full of lists. I gave my staff lists to accomplish regularly.
3. Priority Setting
The secret of all time management, personal management, and life management is contained in your
ability to set the proper priorities on the use of your time. This is essential for peak performance.
What are your priorities? Priorities help us set goals. Put them down in writing or highlight them on your goal sheet. List them in order of their importance.
4. Concentrate on Value Activities
Your ability to work single-mindedly on your most important task will contribute as much to your success as any other discipline you can develop. You must focus on your priorities and put them at value level. The greater the priority, the higher on the list it goes. If new patients are the top priority, then get on the phone and call Perry today. If collections are most important, my office awaits your call. What is your top office priority? Once you figure this out, we can attack this area of weakness and make it a strength.
t£The stress of practice can often wear us down. Remember your health is more important than anything else, so it should be your top priority.99
5. Exercise and Proper Nutrition
As a CA, you must spend the time to look the part. The stress of practice can often wear us down. Rememberyour health is more importantthan anything else, so it should be your top priority. No one wants to go to an unhealthy doctor. By disciplining yourself to exercise regularly and eat carefully, you will promote the highest possible levels of health and fitness throughout your life.
6. Learning and Growth
Your mind is like a muscle. If you don't use it, you lose it. Continuous learning is the minimum requirement for success in any field. Your years of chiropractic school stretched your brain to new limits. Well, like any muscle, you must continue to utilize it or it will atrophy. If you set a goal, make a priority, read more literature on chiropractic and nutrition, and be the best you can be, your patients will notice and follow your lead.
7. Time for Important People in Your Life
Relationships are everything. I just celebrated my thirty-second wedding anniversary. My wife is my best friend and partner, and we work on our relationship. Make sure that when climbing the ladder of success, you do not find it leaning against the wrong building. Build time for your relationships into every day, no matter how busy you get.
These seven motivators only take five minutes a day and will ensure that you perform at the highest level and get the greatest satisfaction and results from everything you do.
