The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) is currently engaged in a process to review and revise its Accreditation Standards. The process of revision is consistent with United States Department of Education (USDE) criteria and CCE Policy 23.
The Standards were last revised in 2012, with an update for clarity in 2013.
The CCE Standards revision process consists of a series of activities to ensure that the chiropractic accreditation standards ai e revised in a consensus-driven and transparent process, involving all relevant stakeholders. The CCE Standards revision process began in May of 2014 with a widely-communicated initial call for comment to the public, including a survey regarding the 2013 Standards. The four (4) responses received as a result of that effort were forwarded to the CCE Standards Review Task Force (SRTF) for their consideration. The Task Force consists of a broad representation of the member programs, practicing DCs, the Site Team Academy and Council. The SRTF considered public input, along with research and USDE criteria, in preparing a first draft revision of the Standards. The first draft contained edits designed to increase accountability with the addition of two new meta-competencies, and a proposal to eliminate parts of the document that were not requirements (including the Preface) for clarity and consistency in the ac-
creditation process. CCE Standards Revision Process Update October 3, 2016.
The Council reviewed the draft and provided additional feedback to the SRTF. The SRTF prepared a second draft that was considered by the Council at its July 10, 2015 Semi-Annual meeting. The Council accepted the second draft to be distributed for comment, and approximately 161 responses were received by the public at that time.
Throughout 2015-16, the SRTF and Council representatives met with program representatives, site team evaluators, professional organizations and other stakeholder groups toward the development of a Final Draft. At its July 2016 meeting, the Council considered changes and brought forward a draft with another “Call for Comments” period from August 1 -September 30, 2016.
Next stepsThe CCE is grateful for the higher volume of input most recently received from educational programs, students, and practicing DCs. The SRTF and Council will now consider each and every piece of information recently received through public comment as a next step in its process to arrive at amended Standards.
The CCE will provide further information throughout the future phases of this process.
