Chiro One Wellness Continues its Expansion

INTERVIEW

Interview with Sam Wang, DC & Stuart Bernsen, DC

As the Coronavirus pandemic rips across the country and new social norms begin to replace popular culture, some practices are taking proactive steps to serve a market committed to enhancing overall health. This month, The American Chiropractor (TAC) has been able to catch up to the quickly expanding practice group Chiro One Wellness Centers, which currently enjoys practices across the Midwest. Read on to see what measures Chiro One (CO) has implemented under the lead of Chief Operating Officer Sam Wang, DC, and founding member Stuart Bernsen, DC, to serve the new needs in the midwest communities.

TAC: How did you get involved with Chiro One Wellness Centers? Can you tell our readers a little about the history of Chiro One?

CO: We got involved in creating Chiro One out of the desire to define “What is chiropractic?” and to improve the model of the traditional chiropractor. Myself (Dr. Sam), Dr. Stu and four others decided to unite our individual small groups (Lifeworks + Chiropractic One) to form Chiro One Wellness Center.

TAC: What type of chiropractic care philosophy and conditions do Chiro One Wellness Centers use? What makes Chiro One Wellness Centers unique in comparison to other practices?

CO: Our clinical care programs are outcomes-based and patient focused. We utilize only evidence-based best practices and highly train our chiropractors to deliver a clinical care model that is customizable for each patient that walks through our doors, unique needs. Every one of our doctors is fellowship trained. Fellowship training consists of over 500 hours of clinical and professional development.

TAC: Do you have chiropractors do a separate consultation for nutritional evaluation?

CO: Chiro One believes that nutrition starts with having a balanced diet and eating whole nutrient foods. Supplementation for nutritional deficiencies should be addressed when lifestyle doesn’t allow for that consumption. We schedule our patients upon request to address their nutritional concerns and provide routine educational workshops on the benefits of a wellness lifestyle.

TAC: What is it about Standard Process nutritional products that fit so nicely with Chiro One Wellness Centers approach? Out of all of the different companies you could have partnered with, why Standard Process?

CO: At Chiro One, we have an equilateral P3 approach that focuses on our patients, people and performance, and delivers a consistent product of high quality, patient-centered care. In the sea of supplement manufacturers, Standard Process has risen to the top due to their whole food philosophy, sustainability of their organic farming practices and their relentless drive to innovate their regenerative practices to improve on and produce nutrient dense products.

TAC: What makes this partnership unique? Do you think this type of partnership is a good approach for chiropractors?

CO: This partnership is unique because it unites two industry leaders under the common umbrella of improving the lives of the people we serve, and in turn, demonstrates the impact this type of partnership can have. Any and all wellness-centered providers should include a quality nutritional program into their care model.

TAC: Do you think this area of nutritional support will continue to grow in your practices because of the COVID crisis?

CO: During any times of crisis, especially during a pandemic, strengthening your immune system with chiropractic and nutrition can help greatly with optimal health and wellness.

TAC: Currently, how many Chiro One Wellness Center clinics are there nationally?

CO: Currently we have 57 locations predominantly in 5 of the Midwestern states with 12 new locations opening in 2020. Recently, we acquired clinics in the Northwest United States in Washington, and plan on continuing our west coast expansion further into Washington State and Oregon.

TAC: Can you tell our readers about the growth plans of Chiro One? Will Chiro One Wellness Centers be expanding nationally?

CO: Our vision, “that all human beings discover their full potential” is more relevant now than ever before. Chiro One’s growth plans are to expand and eventually reach critical mass with 1000 clinics nationwide.

TAC: Anything else important for this story that you want to share with our readers?

CO: For the last 125 years, our profession has been focused on the immediate tasks of defining the scope of our practitioners. Now that the profession has accomplished mainstream access, we need to unite and scale up our industry to disrupt the current failing healthcare model of sickness and disease to one centered on health and well-being. We believe Chiro One is the vehicle to deliver on the next phase of our beautiful profession by standardizing the unique delivery model we call Chiropractic.
