Dr. Kyle Bowers is a chiropractor with 20 years of experience who holds degrees from DePauw University and Logan University, where he also completed his chiropractic training. His career highlights include a tenure at the University of Missouri from 2003 to 2008, resuming his role as the university’s team chiropractor in 2022. Dr. Bowers is married with four children, co-runs a Sylvan Learning Center with his spouse, and is a psychological examiner. He enjoys traveling, playing golf, and watching sports. His eldest child is a chiropractic student, another plays college basketball, and two are in high school. He’s also active in the Tiger Quarterback Club.

Bowers Chiropractic, located in Columbia, Missouri, serves around 70 patients daily, or approximately 350 patients each week. The clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The practice is supported by a team of two part-time and three full-time staff members.

In an interview with The American Chiropractor (TAC), Dr. Kyle Bowers (KB) discusses his history and practice particulars that have helped him achieve such a successful practice.

TAC: Can you tell us about your clinic and the evolution of your practice?

KB: From 2004 to 2009, I was deeply involved in chiropractic work for the University of Missouri while also running my private practice focused on pain management and auto-injury cases. During that time, my practice grew significantly, with an increased emphasis on spinal decompression treatments. After a period, I returned to the university as the team chiropractor. My practice underwent a major transformation in 2021 when I introduced SoftWave therapy, which marked a new chapter in our treatment capabilities.

TAC: What types of conditions do you specialize in, and what treatment approach do your patients respond best to?

KB: Our clinic treats an array of conditions, but we specialize in managing disc-related issues, such as herniated, bulging, and degenerative discs, through spinal decompression therapy. Our patients have shown an overwhelmingly positive response to SoftWave Therapy, which we’ve used to treat thousands in a relatively short time.

We’re especially focused on extremity pain, addressing a variety of knee conditions, including postsurgical knee replacements. Our scope extends to meniscus tears, degenerative joint disease, and soft tissue injuries, like sprains, strains, plantar fasciitis, and Achilles tendinitis. We also see a lot of shoulder injuries, including bursitis, rotator cuff tears, and tendinitis in areas such as the biceps. Moreover, we treat elbow conditions like golfer’s and tennis elbow, as well as carpal tunnel syndrome. These are just some of the most common issues we encounter.

TAC: Why did you choose SoftWave, and how did you come across it?

KB: I was introduced to SoftWave therapy three and a half years ago when my wife was considering knee replacement surgery. A neighbor, who is an orthopedic surgeon, recommended it after discovering it at a medical conference. At the time, we had to travel to Kansas City because it was the only place in Missouri with a SoftWave device. The results of my wife’s treatment were nothing short of remarkable. This experience prompted me to purchase the equipment, making me the second SoftWave provider in the state.

Since incorporating it into our practice, the therapy has proven exceptional for pain reduction. It’s been particularly effective for patients who have not found relief from chiropractic care, physical therapy, or other treatments. It has essentially given our clinic a new stream of patients who were previously out of reach. We’re now seeing patients who were struggling to find relief achieve significantly faster and more lasting results. It has been especially beneficial when used in conjunction with treatments like stem cell injections and PRP. The outcomes have been great, offering long-lasting relief efficiently and effectively.

TAC: What other conditions can be treated with this technology?

KB: SoftWave technology has a broad range of applications, particularly for knee and foot conditions and generally all types of extremity pain. In our chiropractic practice, we focus primarily on treating extremity and joint pain. However, other medical professionals whose licenses permit can use SoftWave therapy for a variety of other conditions, such as erectile dysfunction and wound care. Each type of physician can leverage this technology based on what their scope of practice allows. But for us, we see tremendous results with joint and extremity pain, specifically.

TAC: What have your patients and staff had to say?

KB: The feedback from our patients, and indeed from their families, has been overwhelmingly positive. They’re absolutely wowed by the effectiveness of SoftWave therapy and the results it delivers, especially when they consider how it’s much less expensive than injections, PRP treatments, or surgery, not to mention physical therapy. The outcomes we’re seeing with SoftWave are second to none as a treatment modality, consistently achieving great long-term results in the majority of cases.

We frequently see patients who have undergone multiple injections and extensive physical therapy, and they want to avoid surgery. They often feel like they’re at the end of their rope. Then they try SoftWave therapy in our clinic, and they’re just blown away by the results. It saves them time and money, and it offers them hope when they’ve been told there’s nothing else that could help. Time and again, patients come to us as a last resort, and SoftWave therapy not only meets but also exceeds their expectations. We have a growing list of such success stories.

TAC: Can you think of one change that chiropractors can do to significantly impact their practice’s growth?

KB: A significant change that can impact a chiropractic practice’s growth, which I’ve found particularly relevant in recent times, is the shift toward cash-based services. This is partly driven by the changing landscape of insurance reimbursements, which many practices find challenging due to decreasing rates. In response, exploring and implementing cash-based modalities can be transformative. SoftWave therapy, for instance, is an excellent example. It’s not only the best cash modality out there, but it also serves as a powerful referral stream due to the tangible, superior results it delivers to patients. It’s a change that can truly distinguish a practice and foster both growth and patient satisfaction.

TAC: Any final words for our readers?

KB: Absolutely. My advice is to diligently do your research. Many companies and marketing efforts out there can be misleading. I strongly encourage anyone interested to reach out, call for a consultation, arrange a demonstration, and speak directly with a SoftWave representative. There’s simply no other machine on the market that compares to SoftWave in delivering quick and effective results.

TAC: Do you have a patient success story you’d like to share?

KB: I’ll share a quick story. The University of Missouri had been using different shockwave devices. We had their star freshman football player come to us after receiving another type of treatment for a high ankle sprain. This injury had sidelined him, preventing him from playing the previous game. We treated him with SoftWave, and astonishingly, he was back on the field in just two days. That following week, he made an incredible return on both a kickoff and a punt against Auburn University and became one of the top receivers in the country as a freshman at Missouri. He credits his ability to play and his rapid recovery to SoftWave therapy.

Star players gets back to playing and credits this to SoftWave therapy.

17 year old female softball player tore her ACD in mid-March. Significant decrease in swelling after first treatment. After 4 treatments, full recovery with pain, function and range of motion. Total of 8 treatments and she was back playing in August.

We see tremendous results with joint and extremity pain using SoftWave
