Keeping Your Staff Motivated
By Dr. Lee Wood
We’ve all heard the phrase, “The bigger the dream, the more important the team.”
Developing and surrounding yourself with a great team will help you get where you want to go quicker and with a lot less stress. We can’t do it alone. You do not have to be the smartest or even the best as long as you surround yourself with the best.
Here are some tips for building and keeping a motivated team:
Lead by example. Being congruent and “walking your walk” shows your team that you can be trusted and are predictable.
Keep your staff happy. Job satisfaction leads to job productivity. A joyful team will always be energized for growth.
Have systems in place so the entire team knows what is happening and what is expected. Communication and leadership are keys to a successful team.
Recognizing staff members for a job well done is the best way to build employee morale and pride.
Do not tolerate a poor job or lackluster work. Suffering in silence is no way to lead your team. Remember, when you sign the check, and they agree to receive it, you get to make and enforce the rules for your staff.
Create a relationship with your employees built on trust, commonality, ethics, and a common goal and vision. Making everyone feel special will lead to happy, motivated employees.
Motivate staff members by creating competition among them. Make sure that it’s fun, light, and always a win for everyone.
Having weekly staff meetings, training, and outings keeps your team on the cutting edge and makes them feel confident.
Accentuate the positive and reward the behavior you want to see. Build team self-esteem.
“Teamwork makes the dream work.” So, shoot for the stars; if you fall short, you land in the clouds, which is not a bad place to be.
