The nation s capitol was the site of a springtime event specifically designed for chiropractors committed to helping children, andThe American Chiropractor was there! See Editor Jaclyn Busch 's impressions of the experience on the following page. But first, to provide you with more information about this important series of seminars. The American Chiropractor (TAC) interviews Dr. Stuart P. Warner (SPW), Co-Founder of the Chiropractic Pediatric "University" On-The-Road Worldwide Pediatric Conference. Read on! TAC: What is the Chiropractic Pediatric "University" On-The-Road, and how did! it begin? SPW: It was started four years ago. We hold two in North America every year and one abroad, usually in either Europe or Australia. Past venues have been Atlanta, San Francisco, Toronto, New Jersey, Chicago, Philadelphia, Paris, Melbourne, and Washington, DC. The next conference, by the way, will take place September 27-29 in Los Angeles. We wanted to create a homecoming for all chiropractors committed to helping children. We felt it was imperative to hold a conference that met the needs of the practicing chiropractor. We wanted to have the best pediatric technique speakers in the world brought together, along with the best current science to give attending doctors confidence in how to educate their patients, and to get referenced information to support their point of view. We wanted to have the largest pediatric practices in the world come together so doctors could share their practice building strategies, marketing and pa-, tient education. That way, everyone in attendance could leam to better position their offices for children in their communities, while helping as many children as possible. TA C: What topics are covered in a typical, conference? SPW: Recent conferences have covered an array of topics. Preeminent, world-renowned pediatric chiropractors speaking at our last conference in Washington, DC, for example, shared their knowledge on such diverse topics as immune and; brain function, neurology of subluxation,^ pediatric nutrition, pediatric technique, adjusting newborns, trauma, caring for special needs children, and all the newest information and changes occurring in the field of vaccination. Other important subjects included attracting and caring for pregnant women and newborns, gaining confidence in pediatric examinations, and so much more. The list grows and expands with each new conference. TAC: What kind of results have doctors witnessed through applying the information presented in this program to their patients and practices? SPW: What we enjoy most is seeing chiropractors going back to their offices with a higher purpose and commitment for helping children. The feedback we get is that, within weeks of the conference, chiropractors are attracting more children to their offices. They discover they have newfound confidence in adjusting newborns and children. As a result, they are ready to become leaders in their communities for helping children. TAC: Do attendees have to be of any specific philosophy in order to appreciate the information presented in this program? SPW: Our conferences attract chiropractors from all around the world who cross all political and philosophical boundaries. They are from diverse colleges from across the globe and practice all different techniques. Some chiroprac- tors already seeing children in their practices come to our conferences to sharpen their skills and learn all the newest information. Other chiropractors, who have never adjusted a child or a newborn, become inspired from our conferences to begin incorporating children into their practices. Chiropractors need not be of any specific philosophy to benefit from the Chiropractic Pediatric"U"On-The-Road. Regardless of the belief system they may have coming in, one thing is for certain: Once they have taken part in this worthwhile event, they will, without a doubt, come away from it with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the importance of getting children started in a chiropractic lifestyle. TAC: How do you recommend doctors wishing to attend budget for time and expenses for seminar attendance? SPVV: The conferences are very affordable. The earlier you register, the more money you save. Even though most chiropractors come for the content and to be around likemindcd colleagues, we do apply for up-to-20 hours of license renewal credit, so doctors can get their continuing education while they are there as well. The two or three days they take off from their practice is an investment that will pay off many times over, through the information and strategies they will get and the new patients they will attract. Drs. Small and Theresa Warner are among the foremost chiropractors in chiropractic pediatrics in the world. The assortment of topics was diverse enough to % satisfy just about any interest a doctor has !> in the chiropediatric field. Since I am currently undertaking the certi- , fication course through Future Perfect, I was | glad to see that much of what the Washington seminar presented supported the information provided in the certification program. Aside from the specific information that \ pertained to the pediatric chiropractic pa- f tient, there were vendors present who offered very specialized products that could assist any practictioner to better align him/ herself in the community as a chiropractor -who specializes in children. The hotel Ritz-Carlton was outstanding, as well. The location of the hotel adjacent to a huge mall ensured the non-seminar hours would not be dull. There were many things to do outside the seminar, should a person feel so inclined, which is a plus when you ] are away from home for an extended period of time. For anyone who has the drive and desire to further their education and abilities in taking care of children in their chiropractic practice, I STRONGLY urge them to attend one of these pediatric symposiums. Dr. Bryan K. Bajakian Mavwood, NJ COMMENTARY Kids Need Chiropractic, Too! I'd learned about the ChiroPediatric program by Future Perfect while I was attending the CLA Total Solution program in November 2001. Dr. Stuart Warner had spoken at that time, and I had been VERY impressed by his message with regard to the great need for chiropractic care for kids. So, as a woman planning to have children of my own some day, the decision to attend a Future Perfect seminar in May was an easy one. Arriving at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC, on Wednesday night gave me enough time to rest up from my flight and be ready for classes to begin the next afternoon. Of course, staying at the Ritz always makes for a good first impression. © The first thing I did on Thursday morning was to take advantage of the hotel gym and spa facilities. Then, I was ready for classes to begin—I thought! That first day, classes began at 1:00 PM and continued until 10:15 PM, which made for a power-packed first day! The class load on the subsequent three days, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 or 6:00 PM, was somewhat lighter, though, and allowed for a few more breaks between classes. The most significant thing about the programming schedule was that there were so many truly great lectures focusing on all aspects of chiropractic care for the pediatric patient: exam procedures, adjusting techniques, caring for children with special needs—beginning with care of the pregnant patient. And there was so much more interesting, thought provoking, and eye-opening material! My particular favorite was Dan Murphy's lecture on basic science, nutrition and the pediatric patient, in which he discusses, among other things, the powerful effects of nutrition on the development of the brain. I've never heard anyone drive home the importance of a healthy diet as well as Dan did in this lecture. We all wanted to follow Dan when he went to lunch to see what he was going to eat! Also, I really enjoyed the family atmosphere, which pervaded the entire seminar.. .happy little kids were often present in the back of the classrooms; and the seminar creators, Drs. Stuart and Theresa (Stu and Teri) Warner had just had their first baby a couple weeks prior to the seminar. Seeing the proud new parents and hearing, first hand, about their own experiences provided a very compelling argument for how vital all of the information presented in this seminar is to anyone who has, or is planning to have, children—and, certainly, to any doctor entrusted with the privilege of treating children in his or her community! Ultimately, I'd say, The Future Perfect ChiroPediatric seminar is a dynamic and comprehensive program, which definitely deserves your attention. Many of you reading this have had the privilege of growing up with chiropractic care your whole lives— as have I. However, much of the data presented in this seminar serves as a reminder that there are people (including infants and children) whose lives could have been saved or. at least, greatly enhanced, if their parents had taken them to a chiropractor BEFORE taking them to a hospital.
