"I've always believed that looking at the body as a composite is imperative.”

THE CHIROPRACTIC PROFESSION is inundated with gimmicks — from lead generators to the “latest and greatest technology in healing.” It seems as if more people want to fill your office with patients or sell you soon-to-be outdated “technology” than there are practicing chiropractors.

The profession keeps evolving further from its foundation and, as a whole, can’t agree on anything except intention. Having good intentions in practice should be a given; if it’s not, you are in the wrong profession. If the profession focused more on expectation, chiropractic would be held in much higher regard.

In D. D. Palmer’s book, The Chiropractic Adjuster (1910), he listed hundreds of pathological diseases with correlating vertebrae to adjust to facilitate healing. Today, 113 years later, our profession has been watered down to basically managing musculoskeletal conditions supposedly caused by subluxations in the spine that nobody can agree on how to find.

D. D. Palmer expected that everyone who came to see him would get better, regardless of condition. Most DCs are confident in their ability to work on musculoskeletal conditions and expect their patients to get well with adjustments, modalities, and time.

What happens when your patients plateau or simply don’t get better or walk into your office with a systemic condition instead of neck or back pain? Is the expectation still the same? Will the laser you bought two years ago that you’re still paying off make the difference? The answer is probably no, or you wouldn’t ask yourself these questions.

There are countless techniques in our profession, and all have some validity, or nobody would use them. However, most of us have been to several seminars and take a little bit from this and a little bit from that to create our own cadence in terms of treatment. Having a large toolbox can be valuable, but, unfortunately, it can also be time consuming and inefficient, especially when you are thrown a curveball.

I’ve always believed that looking at the body as a composite is imperative. There is more to healing than just the physical; there are also often overlooked mental and spiritual aspects because nobody wants to be a psychiatrist, although many of us have morphed into that pseudo-role. Is there a modem-day technique to treat the body as a composite, addressing all the systems that control its functions, both physical and beyond, that is efficient and offers unparalleled healing results?

The answer is yes — the Zone Technique in A Timeless Healing Art, a modern-day version of Dr. Thurman Fleet’s more than 90-year-old chiropractic technique, Zone Therapy. He is the best-kept secret in our profession’s history, and his results were in a league of their own.

For several decades, Dr. Fleet taught doctors across the country how to evaluate the six main systems of the body on a physical level by using six points on the back of the head like a dashboard to isolate which brain centers aren’t communicating properly with the systems they control. This disruption can make it impossible for the body to heal and regulate as it normally would if there were no disruption.

Once the deficient system is identified by isolating the most tender point, the road map to correction is laid out. Each system correlates with four vertebral levels in the spine that need to be stimulated to restore and balance the brain centers in question. Each of these six systems or “zones” has many layers that correlate to symptoms an unbalanced body will express.

In 2017, Dr. Peter Goldman, who grew up being adjusted by a direct disciple of Thurman Fleet, decided to create a more modern-day version of Fleet’s work after using the zones in practice for 25 years. He incorporated the knowledge of his four main mentors (all Fleet disciples), his extensive martial arts background, and his own experience as a practicing DC. Dr. Goldman’s Zone Technique is one of the fastest-growing techniques in the profession because it’s become known for results, efficiency, and reproducibility.

Another reason so many chiropractors utilize the Zone Technique in their offices is because of its smooth integration, and how the patient is handled on a physical level (i.e., the adjustment) doesn’t change very much. Doctors who use the Activator, the impulse adjuster, drop tables, diversified, etc., can continue doing so since getting an “audible” has nothing to do with Zone Technique. It is a spinal cord stimulation technique, not an mtersegmental bone-movmg technique. There is nothing wrong with getting an audible, but it doesn’t make a difference in this context of healing.

The Zone Technique is an online course with a student population ranging from DC students to legends of the profession who’ve practiced for over 60 years. Upon enrolling, you receive everything you need to be proficient, with over 60 hours of material to watch, interact with, and discuss. The resources are readily available to help ensure the highest level of competency in practice.

In addition to the online course, Dr. Goldman teaches live events on a monthly basis, and in 2024, they will count for CE credits in most states. Most of these live events are open to Zone School Members and non-members.
