What do you think your two worst enemies of success are? According to author Brian Tracy, they are the “path of least resistance” and the “expediency factor.”

The path of least resistance is what causes people to take the “easy way” in every situation instead of the “best way.”

After being a coach for more than 25 years, my experience is the “best way” always turns out to be the “easy way.” By doing what you intend to do the “best way,” you save time and eliminate redundancy.

The “expediency factor” is a principle that states that people invariably take the fastest and easiest way to get what they want with little concern for the long-term consequence of their behavior. I think you will agree that taking the time to do things right the first time not only saves time but also eliminates regret down the road.

THE ANSWERS:

1. Self-Control: The ability to control yourself to ensure that your behaviors are consistent with your long-term goals.

2. Delayed Gratification: The ability to put off instant gratification for the long term and a greater reward.

3. Self-Discipline: The ability to do what you should do and when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.

4. Action Steps: Make sure your actions parallel your long-term goals and vision.

Discipline is a characteristic seen in the most successful people on the planet. Choosing between what you want now versus what you want most will ensure your ultimate success and fulfillment.
