MOST DOCTORS OF CHIROPRACTIC USE VARIOUS TECH-niques to achieve the results they experience. So what technique is your favorite among all of your chiropractic armamentarium? Chiropractic is not just one technique, but several, which, when appropriately applied, and at the right time, benefit the patient. Please remember, it's not enough to merely study a technique once but, as a student (and a teacher), you must continuously refine your skills to become a master of it. This is an important point that is not easily understood by one outside the profession of chiropractic. It is also, subsequently, the fact that makes the study of the efficacy of chiropractic that much more difficult, further encumbered by semantics within chiropractic, and among other health professionals. To get you thinking about your own techniques and how they can evolve, take a look at some of the techniques out there. This issue, The American Chiropractor features Neuro Emotional Technique, Kaufman Technique, Koren Specific Technique, as well as Neuromechanical Assessment of the Sacroiliac Joint. And, we've also taken the time to compile a comprehensive list of some of the most well-known techniques in the profession along with contact information to put this "technology" at your fingertips. Also, don't miss the feature interview with Dr. Jeff Slocum, a chiropractor who has put together a system to educate the kids in your community on the value of chiropractic, and what it is that we do. I'm sure everyone out there remembers sitting in class in Elementary School with the dentist in the front of the room, and the giant set of jaws with a giant toothbrush, teaching the kids how to brush their teeth. Well, that's part of Dr. Slocum's vision, which, includes holding you, as a doctor, accountable for your actions, and invites you to step up to live the life of a leader in your community, with the set of values that represent your position—and, which will consequently help to build your practice and bring new patients for years to come. Dr. Slocum is also a feature speaker at The American Chiropractor's very own 3rd Annual chiropractic seminar Chiropractic '08 coming up this February 22-24th, 2008, where you can get up to 18 (or more) CE credits, so be sure to see our ad on page 51 along with many other "speaker previews" who are among the authors featured throughout this issue. On another note, you may have seen the recent study in the November 10th issue of The Lancet, that demonstrated no improvement for acute low back pain through non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) and/or spinal manipulation that was done in Australia at the University of Sidney. The fact that there is no real diagnosis being investigated notwithstanding, and the fact that manipulation is sometimes confused with highly precise chiropractic adjustments to vertebrae of the spinal column, it would be interesting to know how chiropractic technology, including viscerosomatic techniques, as well as nutritional assessment, would affect acute low back pain. We'll be looking to bring you more information on this subject in the future, so be sure to send us your thoughts on all of this, and enjoy the current issue of The American Chiropractor] Until Next Time, Joseph Busch, D.C.
