DR. ALAN CREED IS A PRACTICING CHIROPRACTIC PHYSICIAN AND CERTIFIED IN ACUPUNCTURE. HE IS A POSTGRADUATE PROFESSOR OF SPINAL BIO-MECHANICS AND NEUROPHYSIOLOGY AND A WELL-KNOWN AUTHORITY ON INTEGRATING INSTRUMENT ADJUSTING IN THE CHIROPRACTIC PRACTICE. DR. CREED IS THE INNOVATOR OF NEURAL KINETIC INTEGRATION TECHNIQUE AND IS AN INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN AUTHOR, LECTURER AND MENTOR OF TRAINING MANUALS AND VIDEOS FOR DOCTORS. IN AN INTERVIEW WITH THE AMERICAN CHIROPRACTOR DR. CREED DISCUSSES SOME OF THE PERSPECTIVE HE HAS DEVELOPED OVER THE YEARS. What are the components of adjustment forces? By hand, by instrument manual or electric. SOT blocks, drop tables, electrical application of stimulation, good nutritional support. What is the measured outcome of an adjustment both for the doctor and for the patient? A technique in chiropractic is an adjusting platform, it is a foundation of a skill set that a doctor employs when treating a patient's condition. The technique should have a rational for those areas of the body that are being addressed. The rational should consist of assessment of the condition through various identifiable signs and signals from the patient. In my office we use range of motion devices along x-rays, muscle testing, a Thcnnocoupling unit, bilateral scales for weight distribution, postural changes which arc identified through photographs with a wall grid. Our patients arc also invited to fill out a brief questionnaire as to their experience with each visit, so as to educate and permit the identification that our patients would not normally quantitatc. A technique provides the ability for the doctor to discern those necessary areas and components that require changes. The techniques the doctor employs all were derived from experimentation by those doctors that came before. In essence the technique the doctor is using invites a skillsct with various nuances of opportunities to facilitate the energy force and delivery system for that particular patient's needs. What this means is that we have windows of observation, application and outcomes that arc derived from the technique the Chiropractor provides, as in bulging disc, ostcophytc and dcrmatomal changes. These arc some of representations of derangements that arc endemic in the human condition. Remember no two people have the same presentation, though there is a similarity in x-ray and orthopedic testing. The patient is coming for your skill set. understanding and your application of care. The doctors" technique is being refined with every adjustment, provided that the Chiropractor is focused, aware and alert. THE DOCTOR IS THE TECHNIQUE, OWN IT. An adjustment is a functional, structural, and neurological delivery system of energy forces that arc applied to those areas of concern. These adjustments will affect the structural integrity with goals to increase ranges of motion. The ranges of motion are predicated on the postural relationship that the patient presents with. The ability for ranges of motion in the cervical, thoracolumbar and lumbar regions is predicated for the most part on facet plane, and joint orientation. Facet plane orientation is cndcmically concerned with the disposition of the vertebral discs, intcn ertcbral foramina and vertebral joint relationship. The vertebral discs have a responsibility as shock absorbers and space provider, as to permit the intcrvcrtcbral foramina to have adequate elevation. The lumen of the intcrvcrtcbral foramina is designed to allow the excursion of the vertebral nerve that is passing through the intervcrtcbral foramina. Therefore, various positional relationships of the body can and will affect some forms of impingement, pressure, or restrictions upon the nerve. Thus causing any or all of the nerves responding systems, those would be motor (muscle), sensory (feeling) or reflex compromise for those individuals with infirmities. The technique that the chiropractor delivers through a properly coordinated force applied in a particular direction will functionally facilitate that specific area, as well as unlocking distal areas of the spine that have synergistic relations to the region the doctor is working with. The adjustment is to provide for more motion in a variety of tissue levels. Light tissue to deep tissue, deep tissue being the bone. Adjusting forces will stimulate functional control of the body "s various mechanisms. These adjusting forces place into the body, energy's that stimulate and reeducate the cerebellum: for voluntary as well as learned muscle control. They reestablish Ncuro pathways to enhance and provide a better Neuro communication blood flow and feedback system to the central nervous system and cerebellum. In the performance of an adjustment, be it light work or heavy work, it is essential that the proper messages to the cerebellum arc provided for. The best way to deal with this is to align the patient's posture from the nose to the toes as the adjustment is being performed. When implementing the adjustment the imperative is to correct the aberrant region that is being worked upon, so as to provide and permit a better re-establishment of the patient's posture. "STRUCTURE DICTATES FUNCTION AND FUNCTION IS THE PREDICATE OF STRUCTURE." Gravitational pulls on the body varying with intensity as to the position the individuals assumes from moment to moment. Gravity plays a significant role in facet and postural relationships due to load distribution along with the habitual activities that we as people participate with: whether it be on the job. social activity or our sleeping endeavors. Aberrant postural reorganization, especially in the present day climate of a computer and smart phone driven society, create anterior head translation: over a period of time reorients the joints, discs and nerve flow. These changes certainly communicates to the cerebellum providing new Ncuro inputs that continually activates the postural behavior propioccptivc communication. As well as locking in the upper trapczius. scalene and crcctus capitis musculature. Gravitational pulls further enhance these messages and create spasmodic conditions of the aforcnotcd musculature. Over a period of time the brain loses control off those muscles as they continue to be engaged due to conditional relationships to gravity and poor positional relationships to activity. This is called sensory motor amnesia. How does your technique lend to correct'ng the posture? A primary focus of an adjusting technique is to re-orbit the musculo-skclctal structure. Establish a foundational platform for re-alignment of the head over shoulders, shoulders over hips, hips over knees and ankles to support the patient's natural stance. These enhancements permit for better and more rapid positive outcomes for the patient and their conditions. These structural corrections re-orient the facet plane angles. This process also reduces further wear and tear on the joints, disc, ligaments and muscles: also reduces the fatigue factors that arc associated with these conditions. The linear postural outcomes reduces the gravitational pulls on muscles and allows for increased ranges of motion throughout the musculo-skclctal system. Main of the Subluxatcd areas (subluxation means: joints out of proper functional supportive position) arc corrected within this procedure. When correcting an anterior head translation, the spinal column is reversed we arc going to bring the head back further, than the norm providing for the patient's ability to be in that position. This super stressed mirror imaging fires the alpha 1. 2 and 3 neurofibcrs that further stimulate the cerebellum for the reeducation. A key factor in correcting this endemic condition of anterior head translation is to identify the foundation of the spinal area that will bring that section above where it belongs, i.e. look to the thoracic kyphosis. By furnishing this type of a concept the patients posture will change for the better. The cervical range of motion will be improved, due to the lessoning of the restriction of the upper thoracic and cervical musculature: as those gravitational mcchano receptors and proprioccptors have reduced atypical orientations. The patient's lower back condition will be improved due to the mechanics and structural compatibility. This is an example of the far reaching beneficial effect of the chiropractic well positioned adjustment. This is an example of an applied technique. We must realize we THE CHIROPRACTORS arc the technique. The kinetic motor chain depends upon a proper gait mechanism for regulating muscle coordination. The proprioccptor"s of the feet, knees, and hips deliver a constant feedback stream of information to the cerebellum as to the human body "s position in space at any moment. Proper muscle coordination is dependent upon the svnergistic contraction and relaxation of groups of muscles thus providing for movement. The propioccptivc feedback system is in constant communication with the cerebellum, as the cerebellum is in control of the voluntary muscle movement along with communication to other areas of the brain. It is important that we consider the surrounding tissue of the spiral column and/orjoints of the body that arc being addressed. The importance of function and loco motion of an individual's body and systems is of chief concern. The technical approach of your adjustment requires stimulation of the organs to function in a more balanced, harmonized, coordinated fashion such as amino acid production, mitochondria ATP delivery system, gastrointestinal, respiratory and hormonal activation. In order for the proper healing of affected areas, be it subluxatcd or fixated, mitosis is the active ingredient of the stabilization of those tissues. There arc various time zones the tissue requires in order for the mitotic process to occur. Tissue response can be anywhere from acute 3-4 days up to a year in order for proper quality healing to take place. Those processes arc included in the areas of involvement, levels of tissues in supporting areas and the promise of good healing for stabilization and future benefits. What is your technique7 Your personality, your skillsct. your focus and your understanding of your unique technical approach, provides for the patients outcome from adjustments that arc rendered. It is essential that the procedures have comfort and the patient is able to sec and feel from visit to visit changes that arc occurring within their body. So that your patient may "Stay. Pay. Return and Refer." Remember mitosis is a very important component in the holding of the adjustment that is why time of healing is a factor. The patient from visit to visit must be able to identify those unique outcome enhancements that have been achieved by the work provided by the Chiropractor.
