Big Secret of Healing

IN 1965, DR. THURMAN FLEET AUTHORED THE BOOKLET “The Philosophy of Suggestive Therapy®”. This popular booklet, still in publication, was designed to supplement the Suggestive Therapy® course, which continues to elevate sincere healers across the globe. This offering from the Concept-Therapy Institute is an excerpt from that booklet (edited for space requirements).

Composite Personality

Fleet named the process in this excerpt the Composite Personality™ and proved it is critical to understanding all human relationships, especially in promoting a successful healing outcome between doctor and patient. It is a pivotal principle, analyzed in detail in his Concept-Therapy© and Suggestive Therapy texts.

“I would like to tell you of an instance that happened in the field of healing, which startled practically every healer in the world. This concerns a doctor named Locke, who lived in Canada. ‘[Ole] Dr. Locke’ began to manipulate the metatarsal arch of people’s feet. To his amazement, he found that these people were getting well of all manner of ailments. So, he conceived the idea that there was some curative power in manipulating metatarsal arch. He began to impress his patients with the idea that he could cure them by using that method. Dr. Locke made some startling cures that happened to be published in the newspapers in Canada. Being a medical doctor in good standing, these articles were published in other papers until a great many people had read about the remarkable cures.

“People began to flock to this little Canadian town to get the treatment for themselves. The crowds became so dense that Dr. Locke would place himself in a rocking chair out in his backyard underneath the trees, and there, the people would line up in long waiting lines, each one waiting for [his or her] own turn to see the ‘great healer.’

“The people were instructed by attendants to take off their right shoe as they approached the chair and have a dollar bill in their left hand. This dollar bill would be dropped into a barrel that was placed beside the doctor. As the patient would lift their right foot up into the lap of the doctor, he would give the adjustment of the metatarsal arch. That was the end of the treatment. The patient would pass — put their shoe back on — and in the patient’s mind was the IMAGE that they had received this miraculous treatment and would be made well.

“The funny part about it was that people with diabetes became well. People who were deaf regained their hearing. People regained their sight. In fact, all manner of diseases were cured by this simple method of cracking the metatarsal joint.

“Our own [Secretary of the Treasury] at that time, who had much trouble with his eyes, conceived the idea that if he could go to Canada to see Dr. Locke and get his foot cracked that he, too, would become cured of eye trouble. So he made the journey all the way up to this little Canadian town. There was the intelligent Secretary of the Treasury of the United States lined up with the rest of them. He placed his dollar bill in the barrel, had his foot cracked, and To and behold’ his eye trouble disappeared.

“In vain, the medical profession sent their agents to observe and discover what was going on. They could see that cures were actually taking place before their eyes, so all over the country, the medical doctors decided to try it out. They attempted to adjust the metatarsal arch. But, not having been trained in such a procedure, many of them held the negative image that they had not done it right, and as a result, there were no cures taking place with them.

“Dr. Locke, however, was successful in getting that healing IMAGE into thousands of people. With the image already in their mind, and with complete faith in it, they made their journey to Canada. Most of them received — if not a cure — much benefit from the adjustment.

“Now, you can easily understand that if the adjustment of the metatarsal arch actually did anything within the body to cure disease, then it follows that anyone who is able to adjust the metatarsals could also duplicate this healing feat. But such is not the case.

“In Dr. Locke’s case, the people had the IMAGE that they would get well, and they had the FAITH to act it out. That is what is necessary to open the trap door to the INNATE POWER [THAT HEALS] residing in the subconscious mind of the patient, and to release it. When this is done, this INNATE POWER will manifest that IMAGE in the patient’s body. THERE IS THE SECRET.

“To give you a complete understanding of how this works, it is necessary to give you a brief explanation concerning the MIND, the SOUL, and the SPIRIT. These are three component parts of the personality with which perhaps you are not yet familiar.

“You doctors all have your diplomas in chiropractic. This means that you have studied the human body, and you know enough about it that it’s unnecessary for us to instruct you in how the body functions. We do, however, want you to have a clear understanding of this word ‘mind.’ We also would like for you to have some information about the word ‘soul,’ and finally, we want to give you a general description of what is meant by the word ‘spirit.’

“The cause of a patient’s misfortune may, of course, be some physical thing that he puts into his body, some physical thing that gets in his body, such as a splinter or a bullet, or an accident that creates trauma to the body.

“Next, we would like to show you that certain IMAGES, IDEAS, and THOUGHTS can be conjured up by the mind, which will serve as an image to the great INNATE. If the patient persists in thinking of it, the thought will penetrate the SUBCONSCIOUS and become an ‘order’ for the Innate Intelligence to manifest in his body. That is why a great majority of physical disorders of the body originate in the thinking processes. This is often simply referred to as ‘stress.’ The doctor who understands the Composite Personality™ has a remedy for this that will produce health in the mind and the body.

“The soul, we are told, is the ‘person.’ If a person deliberately engages in acts that are not conducive to health — such as drinking unhealthy substances, eating too much, the refusal to sleep or take any exercise, the ingesting of poisons into the body, or to otherwise act in such a way that the body suffers — then that would be a disease that originates with the soul. The person may or may not deliberately perform these acts, but they result in disease of the body.

“When you have a clear comprehension of these component parts of the human and know how they work, one upon another, you can return to your office and engage in your practice in a more constructive manner. You will begin to figure out if the disease in the patient’s body is caused by some ‘physical thing,’ some ‘mental thought,’ or some ‘spiritual act. ’ After determining the cause, all you must do is create in your own mind an IMAGE of what you want to see happen under treatment.

“If you have the FAITH, and know how to give a proper ‘suggestion’ along with your adjustment, then — if you have acted in such a way that the patient also has faith in you and understands why you are giving the treatment — the INNATE POWER in your patient is turned loose and will produce, in the patient’s body, exactly what you have pictured in your IMAGE.

“That is the BIG SECRET, and we will teach you how to use it in your practice.”
