Do You Find Arthritis a Pain to Heal?

IN BRIEF

CHRONIC CONDITIONS

Chinese medicine recognizes arthritis as a symptom, not a diagnosis. Every symptom is an imbalance in a body system, like subluxation is an imbalance in the spine.

There are four types of arthritis. Customized diet protocols are recommended based on a patient’s body type. Following is a list of generalized suggestions.

1. True Inflammation - Hot to the touch, feels better with ice, gets worse with heat and movement. Avoid processed foods, refined sugars, and dairy. Introducing naturally cooling foods, such as cucumbers, speannint, pears, and watermelon, will allow the body to energetically eliminate inflammation and stagnation.

2. Cold Type - Feels better with heat, gets better with movement as the joints and body warm up. Energetically stimulating foods, such as ginger, cinnamon, cayenne, and onions, will increase the heat in the body without creating inflammation.

3. Deficient Type - Will often snap, crackle, and pop, resulting from insufficient lubrication, blood, and lack of hyaluronic acid in the joints. The body becomes deficient and dry in multiple body systems. Eating avocados daily or other quality omega-9 oils will add nourishment as the body begins to restore balance.

4. Damp Type - Changes in the weather will impact this type. Barometric pressure in the atmosphere causes the cells in our body to expand and contract. When the cells are unable to do this properly, pressure will build up in the body, causing pain. Just as the sun is needed to burn off the dew on a crisp autumn morning, we need to increase the body’s internal sun with energetically stimulating foods, such as garlic, asparagus, and cloves.
