December 1 2025 The American Chiropractor StaffWHEN CHRISTOPHER J. COLLOCA, DC, PHD, set out to advance the impact of chiropractic globally a quarter of a century ago, he could not have imagined how far his vision would take him. Today, as his company, Neuromechanical Innovations, celebrates 25 years, Dr. Colloca’s influence reaches across disciplines, continents, and even industries.
He is a scientist, inventor, clinician, educator, vintner, and world traveler, but at the heart of all these pursuits lies a singular mission: to educate, innovate, and inspire. For Neuromechanical Innovations, this vision is realized in improving the human condition through innovation, collaboration, and relentless pursuit of excellence in what is possible.
After establishing his clinical practice in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1997, Dr. Colloca turned his focus toward the science behind chiropractic adjustments. His journey began after coauthoring Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique and conducting research on the Activator device, which became the starting point for his innovations in neuromechanical experimentation.
From there he invented the Impulse Adjusting Instruments, a technology that transformed patient care by delivering precise, reproducible thrusts at controlled speeds, and new technologies in instrument adjusting that measured joint motions in real-time during adjustments.
“Early in my career, I saw the need for greater consistency and reliability in chiropractic adjustments,” he recalls. “Patients deserved care that was precise and measurable, and practitioners needed tools that could deliver it reproducibly.”
His curiosity and determination led him back to academia, where he pursued a PhD in Kinesiology at Arizona State University, studying biomechanics and neuroscience. What followed was a body of research that earned international recognition.
Through multidisciplinary collaborations with medical scientists around the world, Dr. Colloca helped bridge the gap between chiropractic and medicine, presenting at major medical and scientific conferences and placing chiropractic research firmly on the global stage. Each November, Chris is invited to speak at the Brussels International Spine Symposium, a meeting of mainly spine surgeons, and he is a member of the North American Spine Society (NASS) and the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS), where he presents his work regularly.
He is also on the board of directors of Spineweek, a meeting of over 20 scientific spine societies throughout the world. These efforts provided chiropractors with greater scientific credibility, expanded interprofessional respect, and created new opportunities for integration within healthcare systems worldwide

Patients deserved care that was precise and measurable, and practitioners needed tools that could deliver it reproducibly.
As demand for his Impulse Adjusting Technique grew, so did Dr. Colloca’s international presence. He has trained tens of thousands of clinicians across six continents, spreading evidence-based chiropractic methods and advancing patient care on a worldwide scale.
He started a nonprofit foundation named INSPIRE to educate clinicians and raise money to support spinal research, beginning with the Dr. William M. Harris Center for Spinal Research to provide care to patients regardless of their ability to pay.
“Traveling the globe has been one of the greatest privileges of my career,” Dr. Colloca says. “Everywhere I go, I’m reminded that people — no matter the culture — share the same desire to live healthier, fuller lives. Being able to contribute to that through chiropractic has been incredibly rewarding.”
Through his international teaching, billions of patient encounters have been enhanced, demonstrating the scalability and global relevance of chiropractic when rooted in evidence and innovation.
After 25 years, Neuromechanical Innovations continues to push the envelope. The latest generation of instruments — the Impulse 2.0 and the Impulse iQ Connect System — integrate machine learning and artificial intelligence. With Bluetooth connectivity, real-time data collection, and sophisticated analytics, the system helps chiropractors manage patients with greater precision, offering suggestions for validated care plans and even predictive insights into prognosis.
“If you ask, what is the one thing that will change in chiropractic in the next 100 years? It’s Technology,” Dr. Colloca explains. “With AI, we now have tools that not only assist the doctor but also learn from data obtained during the adjustment to drive patient outcomes. That means we can continually improve patient-centered care and bring an even higher standard of evidence-based practice to chiropractic.”
By combining biomechanics, neuroscience, and AI, Dr. Colloca’s team is giving practitioners the ability to make data-driven clinical decisions, strengthening the role of chiropractic in modern health care. Made in America, Trusted Worldwide
At its core, Neuromechanical Innovations is not just a chiropractic company; it is an FDA-registered medical device manufacturer that proudly builds its products in the United States. For 25 years, the company has created American jobs while exporting its devices to more than 50 countries around the world.
“What makes me proud isn’t just that our products are improving lives globally,” Dr. Colloca reflects. “It’s that they’re designed, engineered, and built right here in America. We’ve shown that innovation can thrive on US soil, and that chiropractic technology can be one of our great exports.”
This “Made in America” ethos not only strengthens the company’s reputation but also contributes to the broader economic landscape, demonstrating how chiropractic innovation can extend beyond the clinic to stimulate manufacturing and international trade. By marrying clinical need with American manufacturing, Neuromechanical Innovations has amplified chiropractic’s global presence while reinforcing the profession’s credibility on the international stage.
Dr. Colloca’s global travels have shaped more than his professional work. Along the way, he discovered a second passion: wine.
Beginning as a fine wine collector, his travels enabled him to carve out time to visit the world’s most renowned wine regions. Each time, he returned home with knowledge and inspiration.
Colloca was crowned “New York Winery of the Year” at the 2025 New York International Wine Competition.
Today, his own 103-acre Colloca Estate Winery farms 30-acres of wine grapes and has grown into one of the region’s premier attractions, employing nearly 100 people and welcoming visitors from across the country.
He lives on the estate with his wife and three children. Colloca was crowned “New York Winery of the Year” at the 2025 New York International Wine Competition, winning 11 medals to add to its accolades.
Someone once said, “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” For Dr. Colloca, this defines his reality.
Juggling the demands as the CEO of a winery and a medical device company would seem challenging, but Colloca’s passion fuels the culture that he has created — a vineyard and winery where he lives and a medical device technology company that capitalizes on his science. His collaborations in Australia, initially rooted in spine research, also expanded to importing wines under the Colloca label, blending his scientific career with his love of viticulture.
Colloca’s single vineyard Shiraz from South Australia just won a double gold medal, scoring 96 points at the NYIWC. Beyond science and health care, Dr. Colloca has created a cultural landmark, enriching his family and community with a thriving winery that celebrates both local terroir and international connections.
The 103-acre Colloca Estate Winery is ensconced on 900’ of Lake Ontario waterfront and planted to 30-acres of wine grapes. The estate houses a winery, tasting room, two restaurants, an event center, and the Colloca’s private residence.
Reflecting on 25 years of invention, research, and exploration, Dr. Colloca’s story is one of boundless curiosity and fearless pursuit. He has proven that the chiropractor’s reach can extend far beyond the adjusting table into research labs, international lecture halls, scientific journals, and even vineyards overlooking the shores of Lake Ontario.
“Chiropractic has been my life’s work, but it has also been a passport to experiences I never imagined,” Dr. Colloca reflects. “From seeing patients’ lives transformed, to standing on stages with the world’s top spine scientists, to sharing a glass of wine from my own vineyard — each chapter has been a gift. And the best part is, the story isn’t finished yet. I still have one more chapter to write.”
